Beginning Physical Memory Dump....(Part Deux)

Continuing where I left off. ‹grin›

When I wrote about last Saturday I forgot to mention I got treated to a pedicure that morning. One of Vickie's friends, Amber, decided she wanted to do something nice for me. Why? Cuz I had done something nice for *her* earlier in the week. The previous week she had started a new job up in Mason, but that week they had moved her to their new call center on the second floor of the building where my office is. She had stopped in to say "hi" on Monday and I could tell she was really nervous. So I bought her a rose. She thought that was the greatest thing and posted on my MySpace "you are amazing!" ‹Aw, gee, shucks...› Then, like I said, she treated me to a pedicure. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Only the second one I've ever had but I tell you what, if I had the money I'd be going every week!!!Pretty tootsies!

So...after that, the Baronial Championships. I, like a big dummy, left my camera home. Megan took pics but she hasn't emailed them to me yet. :-(

After the championships went to my brother's b-day party. Had fun playing Riff, a dvd game that tests your knowledge of contemporary music.

Sunday was just plain lazy. Slept in til 10 - a luxury lately!!! Then mostly lounged on the couch watching TV. Got on the computer that evening & started chatting with Karen who very shortly afterwards had me in a conference with a guy she met online. (This woman is gonna be the death of me!!) Next thing I know I'm arranging to meet her by her house then go meet him at a pool hall. We had a couple of drinks with him, closed the pool hall, then went & had breakfast (on him, I might add!) Didn't get home til 3 a.m. Not quite sunrise but damned close!

Sheesh...I'm too old for that crap any more!!!

Monday...hmmmmm...what did I do Monday......(my best reminder in situations like this? My checkbook!) Monday worked on laundry. Only remember that cuz I was trying to get some stains out of stuff, ran out of my super-dooper stain remover & had to go to Joann's to get some (see? Entry in the checkbook!) I was really proud of myself - I got out of there on less than ten bucks. A rarity, to be sure!

Tuesday, back to work as usual...nothing much going on thru the week, which was a blessing! Vickie & I took a "mental health" day yesterday & as part of that had lunch with my lady friends. I'm really glad we do that. Helps us stay connected and we always have a good laugh. Except this time it cost me a fortune - Vickie ordered what amounted to two meals!!! She ended up bringing one home - now watch, that'll go bad in the fridge. Oy.

This morning went & played with the birds. Heard some bad news when I got there - we lost two of our birds over Labor Day weekend. Killed by a mink (who has since been caught, killed, and is now in the freezer with the rats, where he belongs). It was a huge loss for us because he killed two program (education) birds - a juvenile red-tail who was shaping up to be a good candidate for programs and Elvis, our very personable barred owl.
This picture was the last time I saw Elvis. It was taken at a Harry Potter Party on July 20th. Just look at that face. ‹shaking head› Ah, well...the circle of life, I guess. Although the mink has been caught, now the worry is about it's kits, or babies. Apparently this is the time of year they're learning to hunt. So even though we caught the adult there still may be babies around to cause problems. And unfortunately all we can do to protect the birds is put them in carriers & move them to the basement of Raptor's house every night, then bring them back out every morning. All this movement isn't good for them, but then again, death would be worse.

On the plus side, though, I did get a peek at No-no, the Barn Owl we trying to rehab. He was named No-no because when Barn Owls get upset they shake their heads back & forth like they're saying, "NO!" I didn't get a picture of him, but I have lifted one from somewhere else. (shhhhhhh!)
Is that a totally cool picture or what??? I can't wait to get my own picture of him!

Couple last notes then I'm all caught up. (whew!) We've started this thing at work called "The Thank-you Board", which I think is pretty self-explanatory. One of the ladies jokes that it's the "Thank you Juli board" since most of the notes are to me. Makes me feel pretty good, though!

Look closely, you'll see someone wrote my name after "Thank you". And there's two notes to me on it. ‹blushing›

Now that Vic's started back to school, and I'm having to drop her off, I've been going a different way to work. A couple mornings this week I saw a hawk in one of the small trees next to the exit I take. Of course I didn't have my camera ready & now that I make sure I do he hasn't been down where I can see him. Figures, right? However, I did a rescue pick-up today & Vickie took a picture what I was examining him.Can you take a guess at how much I love doing this????

Last but not least, I finally got pics of the ritual robe I made.
What you can't tell from the pics is the colored squares are actually pockets. They can be used for crystals, talismans, what have you. And what you can't see in the pics is there's a white pocket on the top of the head. (I realize there are some of you who are going, "So what?" but believe me, it does have significance). I'm not real keen on how garish the basic colors look so will be experimenting with different fabrics for the pockets. If anyone would like to have one of these, I'm making them in black & white, panné velvet for winter ($75), gauze for summer ($65).

Quick note on Vickie - she's taking a full load of classes this year in an attempt to graduate early. So she's got 11th and 12th grade courses. I just hope it isn't too much for her.

Oh, and I just got an email from the Raptor Volunteer Coordinator, Cinder Alverson. That bird I picked up today is an immature Cooper's Hawk. He's underweight, most likely due to the drought. So please keep him in your thoughts.

Later, Taters.

Beginning physical memory dump....(Part One)

Wow...it's been a week since I last posted. Let's see if I can remember what all has happened since then.

Wednesday night went school supply shopping with Vickie. I have to say Bigg's was the place to go. We got everything she needed for less than fifteen bucks. Then I dropped her off at the mall & went to visit Karen. She had looked thru my online pictures & discovered there are some people we both know. It's a small world after all....

Now that I have that song firmly planted in your brain to play endlessly today.....(Doncha just love me?!?!) Thursday night wanted to go to a drum circle in Batavia but decided to stay home. Meant to get laundry done but instead ended up playing on the computer. Some days this thing can be so addicting!!!

Friday had an update meeting w/my boss. What a joke. She said her goal is to have me as a Senior Analyst by my next yearly review in March. She told me the areas she feels I need to work on for that - communication skills (specifically, diplomacy) and taking control of issues that would fall in my area of responsibility. I told her I hadn't done that before b/c I didn't know how much authority I have & I didn't want to step on any toes. Her response was, "It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission." (I've been hearing that an awful lot lately). She also asked me to be on a committee to work on addressing issues in the office that make employees unhappy, such as the trust factor. LOLOLOL. I did tell her that personally I lacked trust because I honestly didn't think I would ever attain the Sr. Analyst position. She asked how I could think that after she had just laid out a career path for me. I brought up (again) the concept of "why should we pay her more when she's already doing the work for less??" Are ya getting the impression here that I don't care anymore? 'Cuz I don't. But enough of that depressing episode.

Friday was also my standing lunch date with my lady friends. That's always a really good time. Karen was there, and she told us about how she'd met this one fella thru an online dating site and now went riding motorcycles with him. BUT even though he was still looking for someone she didn't want to get involved with him. She wanted a riding buddy more than a boyfriend. Um, helloooooo? He's still looking for someone? What am I - chopped liver?? :-)) So when I got online that night & started chatting with her (troublemaker that she is), she said, "he wants to talk to you!" OY. We got into a 3-way...chat that is ‹grin› I saw his picture - damn, he's hot!!! Upshot of all this is - we may be getting together soon. ‹doing the happy dance› I'm really looking forward to it.

Saturday was our Baronial Championships out at East Fork. Someone please tell me why I keep going to these things??? It was me, Karen, Jake, Trevor and Megan. We set up near the Baronial Pavilion. Still...only two people came over to visit with us. At one point Karen & I walked around visiting, but after the "hi, how are ya?" 's there was that ever-present awkward silence and we weren't invited to stay & visit. I really, REALLY, gotta remember these Baronial events depress the hell outta me. Just gonna have to start saving my pennies for events down south with the Legion.

Gonna end this one here to get it posted. Will post more later. :-)
